1. What ReadWhen Is

ReadWhen is a digital vault for letters, messages, and media that you write to the people who matter most. You decide when your letters are delivered — on a specific date, after a milestone, or when you stop checking in (the "dead man's switch").

We provide the vault, the delivery mechanism, and the tools. You provide the words.

2. What ReadWhen Is Not

Important

ReadWhen is not a legal will, testament, trust, or estate planning service. Letters stored in ReadWhen are personal messages — they carry no legal weight.

For legally binding estate documents, consult an attorney.

3. Your Account

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

One account per person. Business accounts are not supported at this time.

4. Your Content

Your letters are yours. You retain all ownership of everything you write, record, or upload to ReadWhen.

We do not read, analyze, mine, or monetize your content. Your letters are encrypted at rest and are only decrypted for delivery or when you access them.

You grant us a limited license to store, transmit, and deliver your content as necessary to provide the service — nothing more.

We may use aggregate, anonymized statistics (number of letters, average vault size) for marketing. We will never use your actual content.

5. The Dead Man's Switch

The core of ReadWhen is the check-in system. You set a check-in interval (default: 90 days). If you don't check in within that window, ReadWhen considers it a trigger event:

We strongly recommend: Set a realistic check-in interval. Add a trusted witness (executor) who can verify your status before delivery. Test the system by checking in regularly.

ReadWhen makes every reasonable effort to deliver your letters as configured, but we cannot guarantee delivery due to factors beyond our control (email bounces, changed addresses, internet outages).

6. Delivery & Recipients

When delivery is triggered, recipients receive an email with a secure link to their portal. They can read letters, view media, and optionally reply (The Ripple).

You are responsible for:

Once delivered, letters cannot be un-delivered. Choose your words carefully — that's the whole point.

7. Payments & Plans

ReadWhen offers free and premium plans. Payments are processed by Stripe. Current pricing is displayed on the upgrade page.

Subscriptions can be cancelled anytime. Your vault remains accessible on the free plan after cancellation. We will never delete your letters because you stopped paying.

Refunds are available within 7 days of purchase if you haven't used premium features. Lifetime purchases are non-refundable after 30 days.

8. Gifting

You can purchase a ReadWhen vault as a gift. Gift codes are single-use and non-transferable. If a gift is not claimed within 1 year, the purchaser may request a refund or code reissue.

9. Acceptable Use

Don't use ReadWhen to:

We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms. We will notify you before any suspension unless required by law.

10. Limitation of Liability

ReadWhen is provided "as is." While we work hard to keep your vault safe and reliable, we cannot guarantee:

Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for emotional distress, relationship consequences, or any other indirect damages arising from the content of letters you write or receive.

11. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Tools tab. Deletion is permanent:

We retain anonymized usage data (no content) for 90 days after deletion for fraud prevention.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration, with the option to bring claims in small claims court.
